Memorial Day 2012 - Muscle Beach Intl Classic (06/12/2012)

The 2012 Muscle Beach International Classic & Armed Forces Championship was held at Muscle Beach, May 28, 2012, Venice, Calif. Joe Wheatley Productions put on the annual Memorial Day event which included a flyover by a U.S. Air Force C-17 Globemaster III flown by personnel assigned to the 729th Airlift Squadron, March Air Reserve Base, Calif. Presenting the Colors during the opening ceremony was the Honor Guard from Edwards Air Force Base, Calif., the Blue Eagles. Special presentations were made to Joe Wheatley, four Tuskegee Airmen in attendance, and to the family of Dennis Tinerino, 2012 Venice Muscle Beach Hall of Fame inductee.

2009 Muscle Beach Toy Drive and Time Capsule Burial (12/13/2009)

The third annual Muscle Beach Toy Drive was a huge success December 12 & 13, 2009. A record number of toys will be distributed by the LAPD Pacific Division to needy children. Thanks to our partners City of Los Angeles Recreation and Parks Department and our sponsors Iron Man Magazine, Bodybuilding.com, Eric The Trainer, Kanidu, Venga and H2OM.
City Councilmen, 11th District, Bill Rosendahl was on hand to present a Certificate of Appreciation to Johnny Bench, Hall of Fame Baseball Great and his company Kanidu for their major contribution to the Toy Drive.
Following Santa’s arrival, a Time Capsule Burial ended the celebration of the 75th Anniversary of Muscle Beach. Two capsules filled with memorabilia from the past 75 years of Muscle Beach were buried on the Muscle Beach stage. Many thanks to Iron Man Magazine and John Balik for their support of this project!
Bill Rosendahl presented a special Certificate of Recognition to Joe Weider (accepted by Charlotte Parker) for his ongoing vision and support for the sport of bodybuilding and his philosophy for health and fitness.
Notables from the industry including Relna McRae Brewer, a founding member of Santa Monica Muscle Beach and a Muscle Beach Venice Hall of Fame Inductee, were on hand for the ceremony. Other Muscle Beach Venice Hall of Fame Inductees included Samir Bannout, Sara Hirsch Clark, Bill Howard, Bill Grant, Chet Yortin, Gene Mozee, and Bernie Ernst.
Thanks to a group of young individuals for accepting the pledge to be the “guardians” of the Muscle Beach Time Capsules. Justin and Lilli Balik, John Balik’s children, Henry Fleischman, son of Eric The Trainer, Taylor Wheatley, Joe Wheatley’s niece, Boston Loyd, winner of the Teen Category Labor Day 2009 and Taylor Hansen, winner of the 2009, Labor Day Novice Overall Figure.
We wish them a healthy and happy future. We hope they will join together in fifty years to open and fondly remember the heritage, history and world renown notoriety of Muscle Beach.

The Association of Oldetime Barbell & Strongmen (AOBS) held their 26th Annual Reunion & Dinner on Saturday, June 13, 2009 at the Marriott, Newark Liberty International Airport, Newark, New Jersey. The schedule of events included a Historical and Collector's Meeting, Seminars by Tommy Kono and Bruce Wilhelm, Olde Time Strongmen Demonstrations, Reception, and Dinner. This year's Guests of Honor were: Carla Dunlap, Bill Seno, and Bruce Wilhelm.

The second annual Muscle Beach Toy Drive, December 13 & 14, 2008 was a HUGE!! success. Many thanks to Bodybuilding.com and Iron Man Magazine the Presenting Sponsors of the event. The BB.com event t-shirts and Iron Man Magazines were proudly displayed by each donor. The City of Los Angeles Recreation and Parks Department, Venice Recreation Center and the Los Angeles Pacific Division Police Department, Host Sponsors, graciously provided the location and distributed the toys to needy children in the Los Angeles area. Councilman Bill Rosendahl, 11th District, presented Certificates of Appreciation for their outstanding contribution to the City of Los Angeles.
